Naha |

Our first morning is Okinawa is free to relax and recover from jetlag. In the afternoon we will head south to Naha for the magnificent evening parade. Once we are in Naha, we will have a few hours to visit the Okinawan Prefectural Museum, Ryusen, and Tamaudun. The musuem holds a variety of artifacts from throughout Okinawafs history. Ryusen is a cloth factory specializing in Bingata, one of three materials associated with Okinawa. Tamaudun is the royal mausoleum from the Ryukyu Kingdom era and is one of the few buildings to survive World War Two. (B/D) |

Opening Day |

We begin the day with some early morning shopping at a wholesale market. There you can buy some of the gfamous Okinawan kombuh at wholesale prices. Other items such as awamori, nori, shiitake mushrooms and Okinawan cookies are also available. If you are looking for Okinawan musical instruments, we can visit the factories as well. We leave in the late morning for Ginowan City for the opening ceremonies. We will also have a chance to see a variety of cultural exhibits and demonstrations. Naha |

We will spend half of our day attending various convention exhibits and demonstrations. Activites for the convention to be announced. The rest of the day we will visit Nakamura-Ke, Shuri Castle, and Shikina-En. Nakamura Ke is an excellent example of a rich farmerfs residence in the 18th Century. Shuri Castle was the seat of government for the Ryukyu Kingdom. Shikina-En was a secondary residence for the Ryukyu royals and a place where Chinese dignitaries could be hosted in a less formal setting. (B/D) |

Gyokusenso Nanbu Senseki |

Today we head south to the Gyokusendo Kingdom Village. Here you will see Eisa Dancing, Ryukyu glass-making, as well as Bingata and shamisen-making. Visits will also be made Heiwa no Ishiji (a memorial to those who died in the Battle of Okinawa during World War II), Himeyuri no tou and Himeyuri Peace Museum. Activites for the convention to be announced. (B/D) |

Motobu |

We travel north to Motobu, a fishing village. Our first stop will be Nakijin Castle, a world heritage site. This ruin is contemporaneous with Shuri Castle and was capital of Hokuzan, the northern kingdom, prior to the Okinawan unification. From there we head to Goya Park, a bittermelon facility that shows the variety of vegetables that can be grown in hydroponics, as well as a bittermelon processing plant.
Next we will visit Ocean Expo Memorial Park. At that site is Churaumi, Okinawafs new aquarium, and Okinawa Kyodo Mura, a variety of exhibits depicting daily life of pre-world war two Okinawa. Churaumi is Asiafs largest aquarium and is the home of three whale sharks. (B/D) |

We start our day with a stop in Kijoka (the only place where you can purchase Bashofu in Okinawa). Next we move on to Hedo Misaki (the northernmost point on Okinawa) and Kayauchi Banta (a lookout point with a gorgeous view). We will also see the Nago City Museum, which focuses on folk artifacts, and the Orion Beer Factory, Okinawafs local beer. Our last stop will be the Southeast Botanical Center, which features local flora and fauna. (B/D) |
October 18 (Wed) |
Culture Day |

We have an exciting opportunity today to explore the Okinawan culture first hand. We have set up several classes from which you may choose. We will have Shisa Making, Kachashi Dancing, and Okinawan cooking class. The Shisa are synonymous with Okinawa and they are guardians of Okinawa. The Kachashi is a traditional dance that ends Okinawan festivities. On this day we will be running a regular shuttle service to Naha and other local area shopping centers. (B/D) |

This is our last day in Okinawa, we will be catching our flight from Naha back to Hawaii. (B) |
