February 27 (Fri)
|
Day One
|
Hilo/Honolulu/New York
|
| A
late afternoon flight starts us on our way to
Honolulu and then on to the mainland to New York.
As our travel takes
us
across more than one time zone, our arrival in New York will be
tomorrow. |

Day Two
|
New York
|
Our
flight arrives about noon in New York and, after we gather our bags,
we’re off
to our hotel in the Manhattan
Theatre District, the Hilton Garden
Inn (or similar). Because of our
arrival time, the rooms may not be ready. At
any case, it’s time for lunch so we’ll see
what we can find nearby (on
own).
Tonight,
we will go to our first Broadway show, Wicked. This musical offers a “back story” to the Wizard
of Oz. Long before Dorothy joins the
story, we follows the journey of two young girls on their path to
become the
iconic personas Glinda(the Good Witch of the North) and Elphaba (the
Wicked
Witch of the East). Elphaba is born a
bright shade of green and thus lives her life as an outsider. In college, she ends up rooming with the
popular Glinda. Their buddy story is
only one of several storylines and subplots in a carefully constructed,
surprise-filled musical adventure.

Day Three
|
New
York - City Tour
|
Our City Tours over the next two or three days
will be limited to about three hours or so in order to give you time to
get
tickets at discounted prices to current Broadway shows.
There is time to see at least three shows of
your choice. This morning’s tour may be
limited to seeing the Times Square area and the Ground Zero Museum
Workshop(subject to change). From there
we will go to a TKTS Discount Booth to see what shows you may be able
to buy
tickets for. Remember, you will be able
to buy a ticket to see a show this evening and a matinee show tomorrow. Discounts range from 25 to 30 to 50%
off. The booth we will go to will accept
credit cards, cash or travelers checks.
The
afternoon will be free for you to have a look around our hotel area, go
shopping or souvenir hunting with your escort. Hopefully,
you will have been successful in
buying tickets to see a show
tonight. |
March 2 (Mon)
|
Day Four
|
New
York - City Tour |
The City
Tour this morning may include a look at
the Wall Street Area and a visit to see the Statue of Liberty(subject
to
change). Then we’re off to the TKTS
Discount Booth to see what show you can buy tickets for this evening.
If you
were able to get tickets to
a matinee performance this afternoon yesterday, we will be back at the
hotel in
time for you to go to your show. If you
were not able to get tickets to a matinee, your escort will take you
out to see
what we can find in and around our hotel.
Hopefully,
everyone will have
gotten tickets to an evening performance. Your
escort will assist you.

Day Five
|
New York - Evening Show
|
Today’s
activities
will depend on what the group decides to do. Your first choice
today is:
A Backstage
Tour
of the Metropolitan Opera House this afternoon.
This will be followed by an evening
performance of one of the world’s most popular operas, Madame
Butterfly. As you may know, this
opera explores the consequences of obsessive devotion.
Pinkerton, a U.S. Navy officer in Japan,
contracts what he considers a temporary marriage to Cio-Cio San, called
Butterfly,
who renounces religion and family in her adoration for him. When Pinkerton leaves for America, Butterly
blissfully ignores warnings of his unfaithfulness and awaits his
return, even
turning down a marriage proposal from Yamadori, a rich Japanese
businessman. With all avenues of escape
closed to her, she is shattered when Pinkerton returns with an American
wife. Butterfly ends her unbearable
misery with her father’s sword, thus preserving her honor.
Your second
choice is:
An evening
performance of the musical, Jersey Boys. This
is a documentary-style musical based
on the lives of one of the
most successful ‘60s rock ‘n roll groups, Frankie Valli and the Four
Seasons. Jersey Boys won four 2006 Tony
Awards, including one for Best Musical.
Whatever
show is chosen, the choice must be
unanimous. I will not split the group.
Keep in mind that if “Jersey Boys” is chosen,
it is possible to see a matinee today and purchase that ticket
yesterday. We will know before we start
this tour as to
what show was chosen for today. |
March 4 (Wed)
|
Day Six
|
New
York/Honolulu
|
A late
morning
flight has been chosen as a result of last evening’s activities. It is possible to return to Hilo today, but
that would require leaving on a flight at 6:00am (and a very early
departure
from the hotel). This late morning
flight will require us to stay in Honolulu overnight.
As soon as we
arrive in Honolulu, we’ll gather our luggage and go to our airport area
hotel, BW
Plaza Hotel(or similar). After we check in and drop
our bags in our rooms, we’re off to Dinner nearby. |
March 5 (Thu)
|
Day Seven
|
Honolulu/Hilo
|
A
mid-morning flight will take us back to
Hilo so there’s time to have some breakfast before we leave the hotel
for the
airport. With our arrival back in Hilo,
our tour comes to an end. We hope all of
you will have enjoyed our tour to New York and the Broadway Shows we
were able
to see. Thank you for joining us.
